Apple News:YouTube Gaming Arrives On iOS, Android And Web To Compete With Twitch | Redmond Pie

YouTube Gaming Arrives On iOS, Android And Web To Compete With Twitch | Redmond Pie
Only currently available to those in the United States and the United Kingdom, YouTube Gaming allows gamers to live stream their exploits to the world in very much a similar way to how Twitch has been working for a long, long time.

This points to the future of something, but what? In any event, it was a brilliant strategic acquisition by Amazon.

Apple News:iPhone 6S will reportedly shoot 12-megapixel photos and 4K videos | VentureBeat | Mobile | by Mark Sullivan

iPhone 6S will reportedly shoot 12-megapixel photos and 4K videos | VentureBeat | Mobile | by Mark Sullivan: "Mark Gurman at 9to5Mac cited sources saying that the new phones — likely called the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus — will have 12-megapixel cameras. The iPhone 6 has an 8-megapixel camera, and the limitations of that camera can be clearly seen in the washed-out details of images."
That's a lot of pixels.

This 3D printer creates objects from 10 materials at once (Wired UK): "'Picture someone who sells electric wine-openers, but doesn't have $7,000 to buy a printer like this. In the future they could walk into a FedEx with a design and print out batches of their finished product at a reasonable price,' said Ramos."
The future is now!

NASA recently sent engineers to the California Science Center in Los Angeles to dust off the mothballs of the space shuttle Endeavor and remove four water storage tanks for future use aboard the International Space Station.

I love the CSS. I saw the Gemini splash down pod there.

Apple News:Future Chrome for Mac update may solve problems with memory, performance

Future Chrome for Mac update may solve problems with memory, performance
The build appears to halve Chrome's memory consumption, and make formely slow tabs much faster, The Next Web commented on Thursday. At the same time, the browser also appears to consume fewer CPU and power resources.

Not sure what the story is here as Chrome is already much faster than Safari. However, check out Safari running on a PowerPC Mac if you want to see the alternative reality before we were crushed by Intel x86 security problems and whatever else.

We got our first look at Apple’s super-strong shell last week, when Lewis Hilsenteger got its hands on a leaked shell that proves Apple will use series 7000 aluminum."
Glad I waited to upgrade.

Apple cash reserves are greater than all the gold in Fort Knox: "We all know Apple has more money than a dozen Scrooge McDucks. But exactly how do the massive Apple cash reserves translate into real-world terms?"
Er, there is no gold in Fort Knox. Nor beneath the NY Fed. It's called paper gold and it evacuated all the physical gold from the building.

Software engineers who worked on Salesforce’s Heroku platform as a service (PaaS) cloud have launched their own startup, Convox. The startup is building tools that companies use to easily start running applications on the biggest public cloud available today, Amazon Web Services.

Are we talking about the same AWS? I knew nothing about it and created a backend for an iPhone app in little more than an afternoon.

In a press release announcing the program, IBM noted that shipments of Macs have outpaced the overall PC market every year for the last decade."
Never hurts that Macs are engineered to last for years and years. My TiBook is still functioning well (at least last time I booted it) and my original MBP 17" is also like new, although Snow Leopard is the latest OS it can run.
